President Hassan Sheikh jets off to Kampala late Saturday to attend the ceremony marking the 60th anniversary since Uganda claimed independence.
This ceremony brought together heads of state and diplomatic officials from the great East African region, joining the people of Uganda in celebration of this historic day.
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda hosted a state dinner and welcomed the visiting delegation before the ceremony which was held on Sunday.
However, this became Prez Hassan’s second visit to Uganda in less than two months following his visit in mid-August where the signed trade and security agreements with his counterpart, Prez Museveni.
Also present in Uganda are the heads of the East African Community which will give President Hassan a chance to further engage with his counterparts and continue his strive to secure an EAC seat for Somalia.
Uganda has a healthy diplomatic relationship with Somalia and contributes troops to African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) previously known as AMISOM.
Uganda also hosts a large number of Somali business communities and gives residential visas to Somalis seeking to live in neighboring countries for better education.
